Almost three months after it began regularly posting videos to YouTube, BMO Capital Markets has launched its own channel on the online video site.
The channel was announced Monday as a destination for those seeking commentary on economic issues.
So far it’s home to a series of three-minute videos featuring Jennifer Lee, an economist with the company, who discusses relevant news and trends in a news-anchor format. Lee’s first video was posted in August.
Topics include what’s affecting the Canadian dollar, housing trends, employment after the recession and how long low interest rates are likely to ask.
“We see new media as an area that can provide us with potential new access to our customer and potential customers,” said Peter Scott, a spokesperson for BMO.
The channel complements the company’s presence in traditional media, where subject matter experts are tapped for commentary by new organizations, he said.
The company will promote its YouTube channel through “social media outlets such as blogs,” Scott said. “This is certainly an experiment, so we’re starting small and we’ll work our way up to larger things.”
The channel, created and maintained by several teams within BMO, also serves a PR function. It currently features one video of BMO staffers at a charity event for the United Way in Toronto.
