Gatorade Canada is proving to Canadians that there's no such thing as a small sports victory with a new national television campaign for its G2 low calorie sports drink.
The 30-second ad, called "No Small Victories" and created by TBWA\Toronto, features everyday athletes playing hockey, soccer and running to authentic in-game calls from the NHL Winter Classic, an Arsenal FC game and the Boston Marathon.
Gatorade wanted to acknowledge the fact that recreational athletes really do have profound moments of success–scoring a game winning goal, or beating a personal best time, explained Cheryl Radisa, vice-president consumer marketing, PepsiCo Beverages Canada, owner of the Gatorade brand.
"When they're in the heat of competition, it doesn't matter if they're at the local gym or a giant stadium, everyone can have great moments in sport.
"That juxtaposition of everyday athletes with authentic in-game voiceovers is something everyone's done at some point in their own minds."
The commercial builds on the sport drink's new brand identity that focuses on the "heart, soul and hustle" of sports in an effort to connect to a broader range of athletes and active Canadians.
Because of this, the spot is running outside of sports-centric programming. It can also be viewed on Gatorade Canada's YouTube channel.
A second ad will launch during the Super Bowl Feb. 7. Both will run until mid-April.
OMD handled the media buy.
