ClubCom International Limited, a subsidiary of Montreal-based digital out-of-home company Zoom Media Corp., has acquired Gym Screen Media, a digital network comprised of 160 high-end fitness club locations in the U.K.
The acquisition of Gym Screen Media–also known as Gym TV–increases Zoom’s fitness club footprint in the U.K. to more than 650 venues and its worldwide network to 2,200 such locations.
François de Gaspé Beaubien, chairman and CEO of Zoom Media, said the move makes his company a dominant player in the U.K. advertising market.
“It’s the perfect opportunity,” said Beaubien. “We bought our number two competitor, a great company, and now we’re the only provider of digital networks to the fitness community in the U.K.”
Beaubien said the acquisition would further spur the growth of Zoom’s national sales team for the U.K., which was established earlier this fall. He added that the company has also added 20 local sales reps.
While he could not confirm specific plans for existing Gym TV employees, Beaubien said, “our game plan is to grow, so clearly the team there is enthused about that opportunity.”
The Gym TV purchase continues a streak of acquisitions for Zoom Media, which has also bought Canadian digital signage provider Smart One Media and American companies ClubCom and the Wellness Health and Education Network Insight in the past year.
