Litzinger, most recently co-chief creative officer at Cossette, will step into the new role at the Toronto-based agency on July 2.

On Monday, he commented in a release that Red Lion is structured to keep up with the shifting needs of clients, and represents what he sees as a struggle for many agencies today: “how to be truly a solutions company.”

“This move has everything to do with Red Lion,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of Red Lion Canada holding company, Publicis Worldwide, Yves Gougoux, Publicis Canada’s chairman of the board, credited Gougoux’s talent for forward thinking when it comes to predicting what clients’ future business challenges may be.

“In that perspective, Matt’s innovative personality fits perfectly with Red Lion’s mission to be an effective creative business partner with its clients,” said Gougoux.

Litzinger steps into the CCO role recently left vacant by Brett Channer, who left Red Lion to join retail consultancy Jackman Reinvention in May in the same role.

Channer was Red Lion’s first chief creative officer when it opened its doors in 2011. Channer played a pivotal role in developing the agency.

Litzinger is credited with helping Cossette win a large part of McDonald’s business in the U.S.—a win that resulted in Cossette Chicago opening.

He was promoted, along with David Daga, to the role of co-CCO at Cossette in early 2012 after having been a VP and creative director at the agency.

In May, Red Lion Canada took home two gold Marketing Awards (one in Digital – Apps/Mobile, the other in Digital – Creative Use of Technology) for the See How Well You Hear app it created for Sound Communication.
