Gary Watson has been hired as executive creative director of Capital C, effective immediately.

Having spent over two decades in the industry working in sectors such as telecom, wine, packaged goods and automotive, Watson will work closely with Capital C’s insights team, as well as its client services and tech initiatives, according to CEO Tony Chapman.

“There were a lot of things that attracted me to Capital C,” said Watson in a statement. “One, obviously, was working with [Chapman], who I’ve always considered to be a true industry leader.” Watson also cited the wide scope of Capital C’s work among the reasons for joining its team.

“Capital C has an entrepreneurial spirit in its purest sense, with a culture that’s exciting and, frankly, rare nowadays,” he added. Watson, who was most recently with DentsuBos, said he looks forward to once again working with Lezlie Grossman, Capital C’s senior vice-president and general manager, with whom he previously worked at Maclaren McCann. Grossman returned to Capital C last summer.

Chapman said the addition of Watson will help Capital C become more results-focused. “He’s got a lot of experience in the categories we compete in,” he said of Watson. “He comes up with ideas that flow effortlessly across paid and shared channels.”
