Evolve partners with Wikia to represent Canadian inventory

Evolve Media’s sales division, Gorilla Nation, has partnered with Wikia, a player in the collaborative publishing space, to sell online inventory across its properties in Canada and Australia.

“We’re thrilled to have the expertise and contacts at Gorilla Nation to help accelerate our business in these key markets,” said Bob Huseby, senior vice-president of sales for Wikia. “Demand for our web and mobile video game and entertainment audiences is growing faster than we can scale locally.”

Angela Kinsella, senior director of business development for Evolve, called Wikia a “perfect fit” for Gorilla Nation, noting in a release that the company has shown “impressive growth” in its content-rich communities.

Kinsella said that Gorilla Nation has “perfected” the art of engaging entertainment enthusiasts. “Based on our successful track record of building beyond-the-banner campaigns, we’re certain that this partnership will be highly beneficial for both readers and advertisers alike,” she added.

Founded by Wikipedia’s Jimmy Wales in 2004, San Francisco-based Wikia averages more than 2 million unique visitors in Canada each month according to comScore data.

The company maintains more than 200,000 wikis comprising an estimated 20.1 million pages under three main banners: video games, entertainment and lifestyle.

It is best known for its global video game hub, which features more 65,000 game wikis devoted to popular titles including the Elder Scrolls, Call of Duty and Mass Effect franchises and an estimated 2.48 million pages of game content averaging more than 25,000 user edits each day.

Its Wikia Entertainment hub houses hundreds of pages based on fan-favourite films and TV shows.
