Canadian publisher Contempo Media has acquired S/Style & Fashion and M/Men of Style magazines.
The publisher of luxury lifestyle titles and custom content purchased the two consumer magazines from Geoffrey Dawe, owner of publishing company GD & C. Dawe has joined Contempo’s management team as managing director, integrated publishing, and will also serve as publisher of S/Style & Fashion and M/Men of Style.
Describing the women’s fashion publication S/Style & Fashion in a release, Dawe said the magazine “is the embodiment of luxury lifestyle for the discerning Canadian woman.” The magazine was originally published as a special edition for the 25th anniversary of Fashion Television, and now covers topics including travel, fashion, décor, beauty and wellness.
The title complements fellow Contempo magazine Sharp, which is aimed at affluent, influential men looking for information on premium lifestyle items.
Contempo’s history in luxury publishing will help it use S/Style & Fashion to fill a void in the growing women’s luxury segment, which Contempo president and publisher John McGouran said is “underserved by Canadian media.”
Dawe’s addition to the team will help Contempo’s ability “to offer advertisers one-stop shopping and multi-platform integrated solutions,” said McGouran.
Also new to Contempo’s team is former Elle Canada editor, Rita Silvan, who joins as S/Style & Fashion’s editor-in-chief.
Boutique publisher Contempo produces multiplatform consumer and custom content. Its corporate clients include Bell Media, Audi Canada and Volkswagen Canada.
