Following on the heels of its massive NHL rights deal, Rogers Media announced Tuesday that its sports specialty service Sportsnet has signed a 12-year multiplatform rights extension with the Canadian Hockey League.
The deal commences with the 2014-15 season (the same as the NHL rights deal) and runs through 2025-26. It features comprehensive multimedia rights including TV, online and mobile, with more than 50 CHL games – including playoff games and the MasterCard Memorial Cup – each season.
Sportsnet has been broadcasting CHL games since its 1998 inception. Financial terms of the latest deal were not disclosed.
Scott Moore, president of Sportsnet and NHL for Rogers Media, said that the deal cements Sportsnet as Canada’s “home of hockey,” and that the broadcaster would work to strengthen its Friday Night Hockey brand and weave the CHL deeper into the fabric of Canadian hockey culture.
The broadcaster also announced a 12-year sublicensing agreement with TVA Sports, granting it exclusive French-language multiplatform rights.
