Meet the Marketing Award Judges – Chelvanathan and Thomsett

March 04, 2013  |  Comments

The deadline for the 2013 Marketing Awards is coming up fast. And once all your hard work putting together the submissions is done, it’ll be time for the judging.

This year’s chairs, Joseph Bonnici and Dean Lee, have put together a group of top-notch creative minds who will gather in Toronto in mid-April to review all the work, debate, discuss, dissect and eventually vote on the winners. Since this group will be judging you and your work, Marketing thought you may want to know at least a little about some of them.

Anthony Chelvanathan

Group Creative Director/Art Director, Leo Burnett

First job
Intern/Art director

Proudest moment
I like being able to help young students understand the creative process, whether it’s teaching them how human insights can differentiate a great idea from a mediocre one or simply being able to witness their “ah-ha” moments when I break down an idea and explain something to them in the simplest way. Getting feedback from these students who reach out to thank me for helping them is a great thing. At least I know somebody cares about what I have to say.

Most important mentor or inspiration
My sisters. Both are excellent doctors. They worked so hard and appreciated every opportunity as a learning one. That is enough to push me to do better. The only problem with such successful sisters: I’ll always be the commercial-making child compared to the two life-saving children.

Mia Thomsett

Associate Creative Director, Dare

First job
I interned at Bensimon Byrne and Leo Burnett and then did a year at Grip.

Proudest moment
Learning to play foosball better than the guys.

Most important mentor or inspiration
When I was starting out, I found a bunch of old One Show books at a junk store and I studied them until the pages fell out.

What is the industry trend that most excites you?
Advertising is looking less and less like “advertising” and that’s exciting because every creative in the world would rather be making cool games, movies and iPad apps.
